Fridays on Zoom 10:00 to 11:30 am

As we move into a new year and all the opportunities and outcomes that come with it, now is a good time to explore transitions through painting.

One of the challenges an artist is presented with is how to capture movement within the inherently static medium of painting. Brushwork is often the key to defining where form meets form to create stillness or action.

In this 6 session online class over 7 weeks we will explore traditional and contemporary approaches to painting domestic and landscape scenes. We will look at the painting techniques of Mary Cassatt, Frederick Church, John Frederick Kensett, Asa Schick and Ross Taylor and others for inspiration. Students will take on the specific challenge of painting water; creeks, rivers and seas through a series of weekly assignments that include working with specific color palettes.

Artists will finish the class by starting a multi panel diptych or triptych developed over a period of 3 to 4 weeks.

For beginner to regularly practicing artists! Sometime the assignments might seem hard but they are always FUN!

Format of class includes weekly painting assignments done on gessoed paper and some research. Final project to be completed on canvas or panel. Students send a photo of their completed assignments to me via email by Thursday at 4pm. I send a group email with all the project images before we review on Friday in Zoom. Demonstrations, lecture topics and weekly assignments are given in Zoom and recorded in case you miss class.
