Savor the Moment: Paintings and Prints of Paris

Solo Exhibition
November 21 - December 14, 2019
Pop-up exhibition at Chandra Cerrito / Art Advisors
480 23rd Street, Oakland, CA

The paintings and works on paper in Savor the Moment are inspired by the fleeting and enduring moments of Paris’ 6th Arrondissement. I began this painting series shortly after the terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015. I wanted to close the distance that separated me from the daily lives and rituals that were traumatically impacted by the attacks and challenged my own sense of security about returning to Paris.

This series places the view in the center of the scene - or as a witness to the social exchanges in sidewalk cafes, parks and alleys. The buildings, windows and streets harbor, protect, and release the action. The weather, light and atmosphere activate the scenes.

The viewer may find fraught visual interpretations, but painting the verve and vitality of Paris life has renewed my sense of hope and a commitment to not succumb to fear.

I am super excited to have been selected for the Startup Art Fair, next stop in Houston, Texas. What could be better than a stellar line up of artists in individually curated hotel rooms, surrounded by gourmet restaurants, happening night life and a killer art scene? I will be showing hot-off-the-press monotypes of chandeliers, beds and new paintings that will light up your change of season blues. All will be revealed in Houston, so book your tickets and get hopping to the Lone Star state for this inspiring art weekend. Can’t make it? Then follow me on Instagram @nancywillisart to see all the latest news. I am doubly excited to be bringing Conflict Zone to Startup Houston with a continued partnership with YAZDA….see below…

Hotel ICON // 220 Main St, Houston, TX 77002

Yazda, the global Yazidi organization that I have been partnering with for the Conflict Zone project will join me this year at stARTup Houston October 11-13, 2019. StARTup is an unconventional art fair driven by and for artists rather than galleries. Taking a pop-up residence in boutique hotels in San Francisco, Houston and Los Angeles, their aim is to directly connect art collectors to exceptional artists from across the country. As a nonprofit partner, Yazda will have a room to exhibit the collaborative monoprints created by Yazidis from Iraq who are living in Houston. Their mission to to secure a safe future for the Yazidi community after the ISIS led genocide. I am thrilled to be able to help get their message out through art. Join us at stARTup Houston at the Hotel ICON, ROOM 317 at 220 Main Street. Opening Night Celebration: Friday October 11, 7–10pm . Tickets available online. https://www.startupartfair.com

The Evocative Moment in Nature
paintings and monotypes
March 16th to March 29th
Sundance Art Gallery and Studios
Sundance, Utah

I loved being the visiting artist at the Sundance Resort in Utah in March. The Timpanganos Mountains and creeks there are inspiring in very season but it was lovely to feel the crisp air as I painted the snow covered terrain. Check out the new work on my Terrain page or join me at Sundance in November for a 4 day artist retreat.
